whew! little monsters is hard work!

this is the little monsters i am talking about - the image is from the Don't Look Now blog and i don't presume that mine will look anything like it!

at the moment it looks like this

so there is a lot of circle work to do!

the pattern says to do needleturn applique, but if i want to give it to the little human before he is a massive human, fusible web it is for me!

how many circles can you fit on one piece of web?

then cut them out and fuse them to the various colours

here they are ready for cutting!

but i need to get back to my Boy Oh Boy quilt for the Homespun design competition - the deadline is looming!  i need to get stitching!

speaking of little monsters hard at work, here is my little monster hard at work with his toys.  this is the very famous duckie - loved above all else.  i feel like he is part of the family - he has his own bib at meal times, and drinks from the little human's cup.  he must be involved in story time and has a special spot in the bathroom while the little human is in the bath so he doesn't get wet, but is still part of the action.

once i have a bit more time, i will have to make duckie his own quilt :)

happy crafty arvo!

happily i got to spend the arvo crafting today - yippee!!

i finished my block swap for Quilt Block Swap and my swapper this month is Mary from California!  this is a sneak peak of the block i made for her (idea stolen from Cathy - thanks!).  will post full block once Mary lets me know she has received it

i also spent some time working on Hilda the Hippo - a design from Melly and me - isn't she gorgeous! she doesn't have her face on yet, so will post when she is completely finished

and i got my little monsters quilt progressed to the next stage! id been putting it off for some reason....but am happy with the placement of the little guys, and started making circles for the rest of the background....that is going to be a slow process i think :)

so happy happy crafty pug tonight!  hope you got some craft in too

UPDATE! little monsters quilt

waiting at the doctors today to get the all clear from the aforementioned kidney infection (which i got - yay!) i finished the blanket stitch on the last little monster - whew!

i know ive posted him before, but he is completed, so i thought he deserved another showing :)

i think i will put them aside for a bit - need a break from all that blanket stitching!!!

time to get back on track with the butterfly garden quilt - i unpacked it from the spare room today, and had forgotten where i had got to - that means i have been away from it for too long!  hope to have something to show of it soon

little monsters looking cute!!

a few more monsters are getting done!  i am stoked with them - very cute indeed.  i particularly love the eyes and the different mouth shapes.  gives them real character and personality.

love yellow monster - looks ready to jump out the quilt and play!

serious green monster is also cute - looks slightly concerned by what the other monsters are doing

spotty blue monster looks like he may have had a few too many monster brews at the monster mash party last night ;)

and level headed orange monster....quiet, sensitive, a solid monster you can depend on.

Friday Night Sew In report!

project 'friday night sew in' started first thing - the little human and i cleaned up the house and i think he was a little confused that as soon as he put a toy down it was back where it belongs before he could turn around!

dinner was made in the arvo and put in the fridge ready for hubby when he got home. the little human had dinner early too

and of course still found time to laugh at his dad!

then into the bath

and off to sleep. what a good little human!

hubby settled into a comfy chair to watch the footy and i headed out to the sewing area in our shed. i took some extra 'supplies' with me - the choccie hubby bought for me as a surprise (i guess i must have been talking about friday night sew in a lot for him to remember!)

so i was ready! i had two projects i wanted to work on - a disappearing nine patch quilt for hubby to keep him warm while watching the aforementioned football, and the little monsters quilt for my little human mentioned previously

as you can see though, i spent zero time actually cleaning up my craft area before i started :) a very bad habit - but not one to change on friday night sew in!

so i spent some time sorting through my stash for my the DNP quilt - one of the specifications from hubby was that i am not allowed to buy ANY material to make his quilt. so thought i would just sort some lights and darks in blue and brown and have a bash.

these are the 3" squares

and this is the finished DNP block! i was surprised at how complicated it looked, and how easy it was! i followed this tute on line.

then it was time to have a go at making a little monster! love doing quilts like this - choosing colours for characters and seeing their personalities take shape.

here is the pattern - I love Don't Look Now designs - all of them!

and here is my finished monster, compared to the original. isn't he gorgeous!

i called it a night at around 11.30am. the little human still gets up early even if i have been up late (what is the deal with that! he he), but i was thrilled to have a night to myself, to do whatever craftyness i wanted.

SOPPY ALERT (cue violins) - i think one of the reasons it was so enjoyable for me was that i don't have any crafty type friends in my physical world. my love of craft is something that i am usually jokingly mocked for by my family, and not understood by my friends. i have only recently discovered the awesome community that is online - and am loving it! i loved the idea that last night (or today depending on time zones!!) others all around the world were stitching along with me, loving it too! so thanks for organising this Bobbi and Heidi for conceiving and organising! can't wait to read everyone else's reports!

little monsters!!

well! here is the next project for the little human - the little monster quilt made by Kellie of Don't Look Now (see blog list for link)

I love her work and can't wait to make this for my little monster! her version is here

as you can see, lots of colour, lots of patterns - i had a great time raiding my stash and buying small amounts of EVERYTHING that i liked in the fabric store! the current picks are arranged below

also blessed by my in laws with the background fabric for my birthday - so very very nice and exciting!

i love having all these things on the go - but i need to stay disciplined (a bit!) to get them finished!

anyhoo, in the meantime, excited!
